Tonight you'll hear the afrobeat-influenced big band swing of Abdullah Ibrahim, the insanely skilled Peruvian vocalist Yma Sumac accompanied by her husband's compositions, the salsa-laden soukous sound of Ricardo Lemvo, jazz fusion, ska and rocksteady, and some good old brass-soaked southern rock. I love the vibrant dimension that a tight brass section can add to bands across broad genres. This week's show was a collection of tracks only linked by the presence of a brass section.
